Busy weekend for COS athletics

College of the Sequoias' athletic season shifts into full gear this weekend with all six of its fall programs in action, highlighted by the Giants' first home football game.

The COS football team launches its second season under coach Joe D'Agostino against Feather River on Saturday at Giant Chevrolet and Cadillac Mineral King Bowl. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
Both teams are looking to rebound from 2-8 records last season. Feather River defeated COS 41-6 in last year's season opener.
COS' women's volleyball team competes at the Modesto Classic on Friday, where it will face Modesto at 1 p.m. and Lassen at 3 p.m. 
The Giants enter 4-3 on the season after getting swept 25-13, 25-21, 25-19 on Wednesday at Bakersfield. Christa Pilgrim and Karen Rodriguez led COS with three kills apiece. Their first home match is set for 6 p.m. on Sept. 20 against Porterville.
COS' men's soccer team plays twice this week, traveling to L.A. Mission at 4 p.m. Friday, and returning home to host Monterey Peninsula at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Giants are 0-1 on the season.
The women's soccer team (1-0-1) plays at Bakersfield at 4 p.m. Friday. Their next home match is set for 4 p.m. Sept. 13 against Cuesta.
And the Giants' men's and women's cross country teams debut Saturday at the Fresno Invitational. COS' cross country teams do not host a home meet this season.
