College of the Sequoias' baseball team hosts Marin in a three-game series to cap a busy -- and so far, successful -- first week of the season.
The Giants, who have opened with three straight wins, face the Mariners at 2 p.m. Jan. 31 and at noon Feb. 1.
COS rallied late to open the Marin series with a 5-4 victory on Jan. 30.
JT Friesen (Immanuel) pitched a perfect ninth with one strikeout to lock down his second save of the season.
COS also received an RBI single by Elijah Munoz (Redwood) and a sacrifice fly from Gonzalez in the fourth inning, while Payton Allen (Golden West) scored in the fifth inning when a single to right by Donte Valdez (Redwood) was played for an error.
Beavers finished with three hits, while Valdez and Maverick Souza (El Diamante) each added two.
Benjamin Pedersen (Tulare Union) allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk over five innings in his first college start. Pedersen finished with seven strikeouts.
Reed Passmore (Monache) pitched two hitless innings without allowing an earned run to earn the win.
On Jan. 28, COS rode a strong start from Samuel Bower (Redwood) to a 5-1 win over Allan Hancock in Santa Maria.
Bower pitched four scoreless innings while striking out five.
A run-scoring triple by Cade Sakamoto (Highland-Bakersfield) in the sixth inning to provide the winning margin for COS. Gonzalez added an RBI single in the ninth.
COS will host Bakersfield at 2 p.m. Feb. 4.
