Giants set for NorCal preview meet

COS' men's team will be able to gauge where it measures up against the best teams in Northern California during the Toro Park Invitational on Oct. 4 in Salinas.

The event will draw runners from 13 of the top 14-ranked teams in Northern California, including No. 1 American River and the No. 2 Giants.

No. 3 De Anza, No. 4 Hartnell, No. 5 Diablo Valley, No. 6 Clovis, No. 7 Santa Rosa, No. 9 Fresno City, No. 10 Chabot, No. 11 Redwood, No. 12 Butte, No. 13 San Joaquin Delta and No. 14 San Mateo also are in the field.

The four-mile race - over a course featuring dirt trails, paved park roads and a grass start - is set to start at 4:15 p.m.

Ismael Ramirez (Redwood) and Oscar Perez (Dinuba) have been COS' top runners so far this season.  

Angel Barajas Galindo (Mt. Whitney), Victor Cisneros (Lindsay), Gerardo Dicochea (Redwood), Jacob Garcia (Farmersville), Christian Gonzales (Corcoran), Dominc Izquierdo (Hanford), Luciano Linares (Exeter), Evan Loftin (El Diamante), Cristobal Vasquez (Lindsay) and Zackary Woods (Frontier) will also represent the Giants in the 191-runner men's field.

The three-mile women's race starts at 3:30 and will include COS runners Courtney Santos (Hanford West), Viviana Corralejo (Exeter), Sky Garcia (Mt. Whitney) and Ashley Salas (Corcoran).

Salinas' Toro Park will also be the site of the Northern California Championships, set for Nov. 8.
