Late Goal Earns Giants Road Draw at Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA — College of the Sequoias Men's Soccer earned a 1-1 draw on the road at Bakersfield College on Tuesday, September 16. The Giants trailed for over 60 minutes before Joshua Urista Herrera (El Diamante HS) delivered the equalizer in the 85th minute. Bakersfield took an early lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by Luis Gil, and the Renegades held firm through most of the match. COS kept pressing and finally broke through when Urista Herrera capitalized on a loose ball in the box to score unassisted, salvaging a point for the visiting side.
"We've been in a lot of tight games early this season," said head coach Abraham Campos. "I'm proud of how the group stayed composed and found a way to respond late."
The Giants finished with 4 shots on target to Bakersfield's 3. Goalkeeper Angel Nieto (Lindsay HS) made two saves in the match, and the defense kept things tight to prevent any second-half goals.
