College of the Sequoias Track & Field Posts Strong Results at Mt. SAC Relays
WALNUT, Calif. – Competing at one of the state's most competitive meets, College of the Sequoias track and field delivered standout performances across the board at the 2025 Mt. SAC Relays on April 12. Facing top-tier community college talent from across California, the Giants produced numerous top-15 finishes, including multiple event wins and personal bests.
Men's Highlights
In the 100 meters, Tevin Howerton placed second in 10.53, followed by Chase Dexter in sixth at 10.75. Treshawn Rimmer and Jeremiah West (El Diamante HS) rounded out the top 15 in ninth (10.91) and 12th (10.95), respectively.
Howerton also claimed the 200-meter title in 21.22, with Dexter close behind in fourth (21.52). Rimmer (15th, 22.52) and Luis Limon (Mission Oak HS) (19th, 22.75) added strong performances. The 4x100-meter relay squad of Jaden Mora (Clovis HS), Dexter, West, and Howerton won the event in 41.33.
Rome Johnson (Corcoran HS) led a deep 110-meter hurdle crew, placing second in 14.79. He was joined by Michael Johnson III (Bullard HS) in eighth (15.33), Melvin Reece in 11th (15.41), and Reece Poscablo in 12th (15.49). Poscablo also led the 400m hurdles with a sixth-place finish in 55.65. Richard Crakes II followed in eighth (55.78), with Johnson (11th), Reece (12th), and Johnson III (15th) all scoring top-15 results.
In distance, Reyes Contreras Alvarez (Farmersville HS) placed ninth in the 3000m steeplechase (10:41.46), while Diego Perez Castaneda (Tulare Western HS) was 15th (12:02.94). The 4x400 relay team of Alejandro Barrera Gonzalez (Lemoore HS), Crakes II, Adam Garza Jr. (Redwood HS), and Howerton placed second overall in 3:17.74.
Levi Jimenez (Mission Oak HS) cleared 1.95m (6-8.75) to finish second in the high jump. Cristobal Vasquez (Tulare Western HS) placed eighth (1.85m), and Logan Sais (Lemoore HS) finished 13th (1.65m).
In jumps, Mekhi Sanchez (Lemoore HS) and John Applewhite (Mt. Whitney HS) finished sixth and 14th in long jump. They flipped in the triple jump, with Applewhite placing sixth (13.08m), Sanchez seventh (13.00m), and Vasquez 10th (12.56m).
In the throws, Ruben Rubio-Carbajal placed fourth in shot put (13.89m), followed by Phillip Snyder (Righetti HS) in seventh (13.30m) and Julian Rambaua (Tulare Western HS) in eighth (13.08m). In the discus, Christian Alves (Selma HS) was fifth (40.96m), Rubio-Carbajal was 10th (39.13m), and Snyder 14th (36.65m). Snyder also led in the hammer throw (10th, 37.79m), with Alves and Rubio-Carbajal finishing 13th and 14th.
Women's Highlights
Makayla Jones (Corcoran HS) sprinted to a win in the 200 meters (24.66) and added a third-place finish in the 100 meters (12.23). She anchored the 4x100 relay team that placed sixth (48.66), along with Ashlyn Reed (Tulare Western HS), Liset Castanon (Golden West HS), and Ejaiya Burton (Tulare Western HS).
Dana Ruiz (Tulare Union HS) took fifth in the 800 meters (2:30.23) and ninth in the javelin (18.35m). Arianna Ramirez-Romero (Chowchilla HS) claimed third in the 1500 meters (4:57.47), while Jizelle Loza (Redwood HS) placed 22nd.
In the 4x400 relay, Burton, Coryn Theus, Reed, and Jones placed third in 4:17.35.
Ashlyn Reed dominated the horizontal jumps, winning the long jump (5.80m) and placing second in the triple jump (11.58m). Ava King (Bakersfield Christian HS) was fifth in long jump (4.79m). In the high jump, Emily Pallesi (Reedley HS) placed fourth (1.45m), and King was sixth (1.35m).
Liset Castanon had a busy day in the throws, finishing seventh in the discus (30.89m), 10th in hammer (28.21m), and 15th in shot put (7.98m).
Next Up on the Track
COS will be back in action this week at the Central Valley Conference Championships Trials this Wednesday, April 16 at Merced College. The CVC Conference Championships will be held on Saturday, April 19 at Merced College. They will also attend the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University on April 16–18. Select athletes will also compete at the Hartnell Last Chance Meet on April 18–19, with postseason qualification marks on the line.
