Alyssa Block and De’vyd Lawson Lead the Way at Lou Vasquez Invite
Thursday, September 21 – Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
Alyssa Block (Exeter HS) led the COS Women's team to a strong 2nd place finish in the 13-team field by winning the 5K race in a time of 18:06. Jewell Jasso (Redwood HS), after a week of missed training due to an ankle injury, placed 4th in a field of 69 finishers. Rounding out the top 5 for the Lady Giants were Lidia Briseno (JFK High, Granada Hills ), Antonia Lozano (Hanford West HS), and Victoria Cota (Corcoran HS).
De'vyd Lawson placed third out of 112 finishers in a time of 20:44 over the 4-mile course – a very strong effort for the freshman from Redwood High School. Completing the Giant Men's team and placing 5th as a team overall were Andrew Wood (Monache HS), Luis Gonzalez (El Diamante HS), Oscar Ochoa (Exeter HS), and Adrian Solis (Dinuba HS).
The next competition for the teams will be the Toro Park Invitational in Salinas on October 5 with race times beginning at 3:00 p.m.
