Bowl Bound: COS Hosts Foothill in Season Finale Saturday
For the second consecutive season, College of the Sequoias will host the Pepsi Sequoia Bowl, welcoming Foothill College to Sequoias Stadium. The game is set for Saturday, November 22, with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. and gates opening at 11 a.m.
Ranked No. 16 in the final JC Athletic Bureau state coaches poll, the Giants (7-3) look to close the year on a high note after a strong season in the tough National Valley Conference. Their opponent, No. 21 Foothill (5-5), enters the bowl behind a balanced offensive attack and a defense that has produced 30 sacks and 10 interceptions on the season.
COS will lean on quarterback Payton Faker, who was named the National Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year last week. Faker has passed for 3,211 yards and 28 touchdowns, pacing a Giants offense that averages over 33 points and 336 passing yards per game. Key targets include first-team All-Conference selections Marshel Sanders (818 yards, 3 TDs) and Gage Armbruster (823 yards, 8 TDs), while receiver O'Bryan Flanigan and running back Jahkylle Smith add balance to the attack.
The Giants' defense is anchored by standouts such as Christian Markum (DL), Josiah Harris (EDGE), Cassidy Bolong-Banks (DB), and Gavin Silene (ILB)—all named to the All-Conference First Team. COS has recorded 15 interceptions this season and will look to disrupt Foothill's passing game.
Foothill's offensive leaders include quarterback James Maxwell, who has thrown for 1,028 yards and 8 touchdowns, and running backs Jordan Fuentes (528 yards, 5 TDs) and Anthony Alonzo (484 yards, 4 TDs). Receiver Reggie Hall leads the Owls' receiving corps with 321 yards and 5 touchdowns. On defense, linebacker Ryan Given (11.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks) and defensive lineman Aaron Davis-Beckford (4 sacks) are key playmakers for a unit that's forced 17 turnovers.
All-Conference Honors
In addition to Faker's Offensive Player of the Year award, COS had nine players earn All-National Valley Conference First Team honors: WR Marshel Sanders, WR Gage Armbruster, DL Christian Markum, DB Cassidy Bolong-Banks, EDGE Josiah Harris, OL Izear Dampier, ILB Gavin Silene, and OL Chad Haughton.
