COS Volleyball’s Allison Wood Earns CCCWVCA State Player of the Week Honors
VISALIA, Calif. – College of the Sequoias sophomore libero Allison Wood has been named the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) State Player of the Week after an outstanding four-match stretch that propelled the Giants to a 4-0 record this week. Wood, a 5'4" standout from Immanuel High School, anchored the back row with 86 digs, 8 service aces, and an elite 95% efficiency in serve receive — finishing 78-for-82 across the week.
Wood opened the week with 13 digs and one ace in a sweep over San Jose City, then followed that with a strong performance on the road at Los Medanos, tallying 19 digs and three service aces. Her signature effort came later in the week against Sacramento City, where she recorded a season-high 32 digs in a thrilling five-set victory. She capped the weekend with 22 digs and one ace in another sweep against Ohlone. Wood now leads the state in both total digs (296) and digs per set (6.04), while pushing her career total to 889 with more than half the season still to play.
"Allison is the heartbeat of our defense," said Head Coach Kim Rix. "She plays with such calm and confidence, and her ability to read hitters and cover the court is elite. Her consistency sets the tone for our entire team."
After recording 593 digs as a freshman, Wood has emerged as one of the premier liberos in the state for the second year in a row. Her efforts have helped Sequoias jump out to a 12-2 record, establishing the Giants as a top contender in Northern California heading into the final stretch of non-conference play.
