College of the Sequoias Volleyball Dominates at Porterville, Extends Win Streak
PORTERVILLE, Calif. – College of the Sequoias Volleyball continued its hot streak in Central Valley Conference play, sweeping Porterville College on the road Wednesday night with set scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-13.
The Giants (now 16-3 overall, 2-1 CVC) were sharp on both sides of the ball, hitting .337 as a team while limiting Porterville to a -.065 attack percentage. Mariainez Lopez (Dinuba HS) led the offense with 9 kills, while Leilani Smith added 8 kills on .429 hitting. Trinity Tavita chipped in 7 kills as Sequoias used a balanced front line to control the match from the start.
Sophomore libero Allison Wood (Immanuel HS) anchored the defense with 25 digs and a service ace, extending her state-leading dig total to 491. Molly Forehan directed the attack with 20 assists (her 79th of the season), added 8 digs, and served up 2 aces. Gabriella Rodriguez (Tulare Union HS) and Smith each added 2 aces from the service line.
The Giants outdug the Pirates 61-39 and dominated at the net, finishing with 41 kills compared to Porterville's 22. Zakoiyah Smith (Hoover HS) added 3 block assists and hit .444 with 5 kills in a strong two-set showing.
"We came out focused and executed at a high level from the start," said COS Head Coach Kim Rix. "Our serve receive was clean, our block was disciplined, and our attackers did a great job making smart decisions."

Sequoias now turns its attention to a key three-match stretch in the Central Valley Conference. The Giants travel to Lemoore on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m., then head to Merced for a Friday, Oct. 17 match at 6 p.m. They return home to Porter Field House to host Fresno City on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. in what should be a huge match.
