College of the Sequoias Posts Strong Finishes at NorCal Championships as Moore finishes as State Champion in Long Jump & Triple Jump
College of the Sequoias track and field competed against the top programs in Northern California at the NorCal Championships, posting multiple podium finishes, personal bests, and advancing marks across sprints, distance, hurdles, and field events. The Giants finished tied for 4th on the men's side (66 points) and 6th on the women's side (51 points).
On the Track
Tevin Howerton led the sprint group with a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters (10.66) and added a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters (21.75). Jo'siah Moon followed with a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters (21.87 PR) and placed sixth in the 400 meters (49.51).
In the distance events, Julian Valdivia claimed the NorCal title in the 1500 meters (3:56.13) and added a third-place finish in the 5000 meters (15:14.53). Ryan Herrera placed ninth in the 1500 meters (4:08.61 PR) and 12th in the 5000 meters (15:46.68 PR). Marcos Soltero (23rd, 4:23.21) and Daniel Julian Campos (24th, 4:24.70 PR) also competed in the 1500 meters.
In the 10,000 meters, Enrique Ramirez (35:41.52 PR) and Matthew Cancio (37:29.16 PR) added depth for COS.
On the women's side, Katalina Castillo placed seventh in the 400 meters (1:00.08). In distance, Gia Ortega finished seventh in the 5000 meters (19:14.10), while Lizzet Rodriguez placed seventh in the 10,000 meters (42:35.46 PR) and Vanessa Medina followed in 15th (45:04.49 PR). Ana Landeros Ontiveros (12th, 5:05.91 PR) and Trinity Ortega (13th, 5:10.33 PR) competed in the 1500 meters.
Hurdles & Relays
Angel Sanchez led a strong hurdles group with a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles (15.09 PR), followed by Reece Poscablo in fourth (15.16) and Richard Crakes II in sixth (15.49). Poscablo also placed fourth in the 400m hurdles (53.91).
The men's 4x100 relay team of Moon, Chase Dexter, Mattis Aguilar, and Howerton placed third overall in 41.11. The 4x400 relay (Crakes II, Moon, Dexter, Howerton) finished 13th.
For the women, the 4x100 relay team of Sadie Carpenter, Daoni Hodge Redd, Castillo, and Ashlyn Reed placed fourth (49.06), while the 4x400 relay (Reed, Ava Rangel, Hodge Redd, Castillo) placed seventh (4:11.94).
In the Field
Vivian Moore highlighted the women's field events with two event titles, winning the long jump (5.88m PR) and triple jump (12.00m PR). Ashlyn Reed added a second-place finish in the triple jump (11.60m PR) and placed sixth in the long jump (5.49m). Sadie Carpenter also scored in both events, finishing seventh in the long jump (5.34m PR) and triple jump (10.70m).
In the throws, Maya McNeal placed ninth in the shot put (10.32m), while Taylor McElree finished 12th in the hammer throw (33.26m) and Brooke Garcia finished 13th in pole vault (2.80m).
On the men's side, Tyrik Jackson placed seventh in the long jump (6.72m). Ryan Calo added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump (13.13m), while Nathan Herrera placed 10th (12.72m).
Ruben Rubio-Carbajal led the throws with a sixth-place finish in shot put (14.86m) and a 12th-place finish in discus (40.86m). Carlos Renteria (21st) and William Brinegar (24th) also competed in the discus.
In the vertical jumps, Isaiah Galaviz placed 12th in the high jump (1.85m), and Jaime Benavides finished 12th in the pole vault (3.90m).
Next Up
College of the Sequoias will now prepare for the 3C2A State Championship, which will be held at Mt. San Antonio College from May 15-16.
