College of the Sequoias’ Vivian Moore Claims NorCal Long Jump and Triple Jump Titles
WALNUT, Calif. – Freshman Vivian Moore (Central East HS) delivered a standout performance for the College of the Sequoias women's track & field team at the 3C2A Northern California Championships, capturing NorCal titles in both the long jump and triple jump while continuing the Giants' tradition of producing elite multi-event athletes.
Moore opened the meet by winning the long jump with a personal-best mark of 5.88 meters, finishing ahead of Modesto's Shaylan Roy-Williams (5.74m). Fellow Giant Ashlyn Reed (Tulare Western HS) added a sixth-place finish, while Sadie Carpenter (Immanuel HS) placed seventh to give COS three scorers in the event.
Later in the championships, Moore claimed her second NorCal title of the meet in the triple jump with another personal-best mark of 12.00 meters. Reed completed a 1-2 finish for the Giants after placing second with a personal-best leap of 11.60 meters, while Carpenter added points with a seventh-place finish.
"Vivian had one of the biggest performances we've had at the NorCal Championships in a long time," said College of the Sequoias head coach Kenny Jackson. "To come in as a freshman and win both the long jump and triple jump against this level of competition is an incredible accomplishment. That doesn't happen very often. She rose to the moment, competed all weekend, and showed exactly why we believe in her."
Moore joins a long line of standout College of the Sequoias track & field athletes who excelled across multiple events, including former COS athlete and Olympian Deajah Stevens. During her time with the Giants, Stevens captured Northern California Championships titles in the 200 meters with a time of 23.35, the 400 meters in 55.41, and the long jump with a mark of 5.95 meters at the 2015 NorCal Championships before later competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Moore's performance also continues the legacy established by former COS athlete and 2024 Paris Olympic gold medalist Quincy Hall who won four events at the 2018 Northern California Championships, including the 400 meters, 400-meter hurdles, 4x100 relay, and 4x400 relay.
"Ashlyn and Sadie also had outstanding meets for us," Jackson added. "Having multiple athletes score and reach the podium in both jumps shows the depth and growth of our team right now."
The Giants will next compete at the 3C2A State Championships, where Moore and several COS athletes will look to continue their strong postseason performances.
