College of the Sequoias Women’s Soccer defeats Porterville in 5-0 Road Victory
PORTERVILLE, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias women's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win over Porterville College behind a balanced offensive performance and a stifling defensive effort.
The Giants (9-8-3, 8-5-2) controlled possession throughout the match and wasted little time finding their rhythm. Alize San Juan (Golden West HS) opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing off a setup from Angie Torres (Granite Hills HS). Less than a minute later, Jaya Laird (Hanford HS) doubled the lead off an assist from Alyssa Hughes (Hanford West HS) to make it 2-0.
Before halftime, Gabby Hempton (Hanford HS) extended the margin to 3-0, converting a pass from Ashley Rodríguez (Porterville HS) to give Sequoias a 3-0 advantage at the break.
The Giants continued to press in the second half. Ariss Ramirez (Clovis West HS) added the fourth goal in the 63rd minute, assisted by San Juan, before Melanie Navarro (Lindsay HS) capped the scoring in the 83rd minute from a feed by Laird.
Goalkeepers Haylie Brasil (Manteca HS) and Madison Lujan (Hanford HS) combined for three saves to secure the shutout — the Giants' ninth of the season.
Head Coach Brooklyn Morris praised her team's performance and consistency to close out conference play. "We were sharp from start to finish and created quality chances in every third of the field," Morris said. "I'm proud of the way this group finished the regular season. They've continued to grow, trust each other, and play with purpose."
