Giants Split Back-to-Back Games at Coach Carr Classic
SAN JOSE, Calif. – College of the Sequoias Men's Basketball team wrapped up a non-conference road trip by splitting a pair of games at the Coach Carr Classic hosted by San Jose City College. After falling to host San Jose in double-overtime on Friday, the Giants bounced back in dominant fashion Saturday with a 102-74 rout of College of the Siskiyous.
The Giants move to 7-3 overall heading into the final weekend before the holiday break.
San Jose 90, COS 86 (2OT) – Fri, Dec. 12
COS took host San Jose to double-overtime but ultimately fell 90-86 despite a 27-point effort from Cameron Kelly (Geogia).
The Giants clawed back from a halftime deficit, but San Jose pulled ahead in the second overtime.
"We left too many points at the line and gave them too many second chances," said COS Head Coach Dallas Jensen. "But I'm proud of the toughness we showed to keep battling."
Kion Hayes (Georgia) hit four threes and finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Jayden Abuyen (Centennial HS) added 11 points and 7 boards, while Mason Dorsey (Crespi HS) chipped in 9 points and 4 rebounds.
COS 102, Siskiyous 74 – Sat, Dec. 13
Less than 24 hours later, the Giants responded with an explosive offensive performance by putting up 102 points in a win over Siskiyous.
Freshman forward Javon Bragg (Corcoran HS) was unstoppable, pouring in a career-high and an incredible performance with 45 points on 19-of-24 shooting while adding 13 rebounds.
"I couldn't be happier for Javon." said Jensen. "He's been putting in the work, and tonight it all came together. Seeing him dominate on both ends and do it within the flow of our offense was special. That's a performance we'll be talking about for a long time."
Cameron Kelly recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Jamaal Phatty (Germany) added 13 points and 7 assists. The Giants dished out 30 assists as a team and shot nearly 57% from the field.
"We shared the ball, we attacked mismatches, and we defended with energy," said Jensen. "This is the identity we're chasing as we move toward league play."
