Balanced Attack Fuels Giants Men's Basketball in 70-53 Conference Road Win

REEDLEY, Calif. – College of the Sequoias men's basketball team opened Central Valley Conference play with a 70-53 road win over Reedley on Wednesday night, using a balanced effort on both ends of the floor to take control early and never let go.

The Giants (11-5, 2-0 CVC) surged to a 38-22 halftime lead behind stifling defense and crisp ball movement. Five different players recorded multiple assists as Sequoias piled up 20 assists on 25 made field goals and forced 15 turnovers. They also dominated the glass with a 48-29 rebounding edge, including 14 offensive boards.

Sophomore Cameron Kelly (Atlanta) sparked the offense with 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Jayden Abuyen added nine points, eight rebounds, and four steals in a strong two-way effort, while Mason Dorsey filled the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Sequoias' bench chipped in 20 points, led by Kion Hayes (Savannah) with seven and Kareem Barnett (Miami) with six.

"We had great balance, and I thought our defense really set the tone," said COS head coach Dallas Jensen. "We made it tough on them to get clean looks, and guys like Jayden and Mason were flying around defensively. We still need to clean up the turnovers, but overall, I'm proud of how we have been playing."

Despite a late push from Reedley to trim the margin in the second half, the Giants responded with timely scores and key stops. Zaquien Whitehead (Columbus) gave strong minutes inside with 5 points and 6 rebounds.

Upcoming Games

College of the Sequoias will return to action on Wednesday, January 17, when they travel to Lemoore College (9-7, 2-0), with the Men's at 5:00 PM and Women's at 7:00 PM. They will return home to host Fresno City College (6-10, 1-1) on Saturday, January 21 at 3:00 PM inside Porter Field House. That game will be the first half of a conference doubleheader, with the women's game tipping off right after at 5:00 PM. COS will look to build on its 2nd straight conference win and extend its strong play.
