COS Softball Receive Multiple All-CVC Selections & Set for Regional First Round Matchup vs. American River
VISALIA, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias softball team has concluded the regular season and will open postseason play this weekend, hosting American River College in the first round of the 3C2A Northern California Regional Playoffs at the COS Softball Complex.
Season Honors
The Giants were well-represented in postseason recognition, highlighting both their depth and production throughout the lineup.
Leading the way, Shelby Somavia (Redwood HS) earned All-Northern Team honors, part of the statewide awards. Somavia hit .419 including 13 doubles, 4 home runs, and 24 RBIs.
In the circle, Audrina Rodriguez (Woodlake HS) and Amanda Herrera (Immanuel HS) were both named All-Central Valley Conference First Team pitchers. Rodriguez led the staff with a 19-5 record, 2.80 ERA, and 137 strikeouts in 142.2 innings, while throwing 13 complete games. Herrera added a strong presence, going 7-2 with a 3.59 ERA across 78.0 innings, helping stabilize the pitching rotation throughout the season.
In the infield, Alivea Salcedo (Tulare Western HS) earned First Team honors after hitting .362 with 38 hits, 10 doubles, and 24 RBIs. In the outfield, Madisyn Benedict (Hanford HS) was recognized as a First Team selection after leading the team with 44 hits and 38 RBIs. She hit .364 with 14 doubles, while adding 32 runs scored and 14 stolen bases, providing consistent production at the top of the lineup.
Somavia also earned First Team honors as a designated player, giving COS multiple First Team selections in the heart of the order.
On the All-CVC Second Team, Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS) was selected for her performance in the middle infield. Santos hit .268, while contributing 20 stolen bases.
Overall, the postseason honors reflect a balanced Sequoias team that combined power, speed, and pitching depth throughout the 2026 campaign.
Giants Regional First Round Matchup
College of the Sequoias enter the postseason as the No. 6 seed with a 29-8-1 overall record, including a 15-3 mark in Central Valley Conference play, finishing second in the conference. COS has been strong on both sides of the ball throughout the season, hitting .324 as a team while posting a 3.15 team ERA in the circle.
American River comes in as the No. 11 seed at 21-19 overall (12-12 Big 8 Conference) after finishing 6th in conference play. The Beavers bring an offense that hits .331 as a team, led by several hitters batting above .350.
The opening matchup is scheduled for this weekend at the COS Softball Field. Game 1 is scheduled for this Friday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. While, Game 2 will be on Saturday, May 2nd at 12:00 p.m., and Game 3, if necessary will be after at 2:00 p.m.
"Postseason softball comes down to converting in key moments," said Head Coach Cori Janelli. "This group has been consistent all year, and we've relied on contributions throughout the lineup and in the circle. We're focused on playing our game and competing one pitch at a time."
The regional will follow a double-elimination format, with teams advancing through the bracket toward a spot in the next round of the 3C2A playoffs.
