COS Sports Notes: Week of December 15, 2025
Women's basketball heads south for three tough matchups, volleyball wraps postseason run, and Giants men's basketball welcomes five teams for two-day home tournament.
With the fall semester winding down, College of the Sequoias athletics is heating up—on and off the court. This weekend brings a full slate of action for the Giants, headlined by home contests for the men's basketball team in the annual COS Classic, while the women's basketball team hits the road for a tough three-game showcase.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The College of the Sequoias men's basketball team will have two home games this weekend, as the Giants host the COS Classic.
Sequoias is 7-3 overall after splitting two games last weekend at the Carr Classic in San Jose.
COS will play Orange Coast (0-10) Friday at 7 p.m., and will play Butte (8-6) Saturday at 2 o'clock at the Porter Field House.
Coach Dallas Jensen's Giants were ranked No. 10 in the state in the last state poll.
In other Friday games, Lemoore (4-6) takes on Pasadena (5-5) at 3 p.m and Porterville (2-10) faces Butte at 5 p.m.
Saturday, Pasadena plays Porterville at 12 p.m. and Lemoore meets Orange Coast at 4 p.m.
One of COS' three losses is to Fullerton, the state's No. 2 ranked team behind San Francisco.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
It was difficult for the COS women's team last week, first beating Hancock in a non-conference game and then dropping two games on the road, to Folsom Lake and Laney. Sequoias now stands at 6-7.
It doesn't get any easier for COS this week as they will play three games in the Moorpark Showcase.
Sequoias will face host Moorpark (10-2) Thursday in its first game, followed by a matchup with Orange Coast (10-3) Friday at 11 a.m., and the finale against Palomar (7-3) Saturday at 3 o'clock.
These will be the final non-conference games before Central Valley Conference play begins January 7.
At the Gilcrest Invitational tournament, COS' Nyla Anderson was named to the all-tournament team, helping Sequoias win two of three games and posting a third place finish.
