COS Sports Notes: Week of December 30, 2025
Men's team takes on No. 16 Ventura and No. 6 Citrus before defending its CVC title; women prepare for league opener after battling through gauntlet of non-conference opponents.
With Central Valley Conference play on the horizon, both College of the Sequoias basketball programs are eyeing critical matchups that could shape their momentum heading into the new year.
Men's Basketball
College of the Sequoias' men's basketball team has an important week ahead with two games against state-ranked opponents, before opening conference play next week.
COS (9-3) and ranked 20th in the latest state poll, will play Tuesday at No. 16 ranked Ventura (11-3), and Friday will host No. 6 Citrus (12-1), at 5 p.m. at the Porter Fieldhouse.
Coach Dallas Jensen's Giants have won three in a row and six of their last seven, the only loss 90-86 at San Jose City College in double overtime.
Sequoias will open defense of its four-time Central Valley Conference championships by hosting Coalinga College January 7 at 5 p.m.
Women's Basketball
The COS women are off this week, having not played since December 20.
Playing perhaps the stiffest schedule in the state with a nearly all-new team, Sequoias is 7-9 overall and ranked No. 16 in the latest state poll.
The Giants will open Central Valley Conference play January 7 with a tall task, hosting Taft at 7 p.m.
The Cougars are off to their best start in history with a 14-1 record and are ranked 18th in the state
