COS Women’s Tennis Competes at Viking Doubles Day
The College of the Sequoias women's tennis team put together a strong showing at Viking Doubles Day, competing against Solano College, Modesto Junior College, and American River College in a full day of doubles competition at West Valley College.
COS opened the event with a dominant performance against Solano, sweeping all three doubles matches. The pairing of Sadie Avila (Hanford HS) and Areli Tobon (Mt. Whitney HS) set the tone with an 8-4 win, displaying consistent net play and communication. Ruby Zambrano (Dinuba HS) and Jaden Godoy (Dinuba HS) followed with an 8-2 victory, controlling the match from start to finish. Rounding out the sweep, Mia Orosco (Dinuba HS) teamed with Jylean Cervantes (Tulare Union HS) to secure an 8-4 win and complete the 3-0 result.
Against Modesto Junior College, the Giants faced tougher competition and finished 1-2 in doubles play. Avila and Tobon continued their strong day, battling through an 8-8 tie before pulling out a dramatic 9-7 tiebreak win. Despite the effort, COS dropped the other two matches in the round.
The final set of matches came against American River College. Once again, Avila and Tobon delivered for the Giants, earning an 8-6 win in a tightly contested match. COS was unable to flip the remaining courts, but the team showed resilience and competitiveness throughout the day against one of Northern California's top programs.
Overall, Viking Doubles Day provided valuable experience for the Giants as they continued to test different pairings and prepare for postseason competition.
Upcoming Matches
College of the Sequoias' women's tennis will be back in action this Friday, January 30 when they travel to play Folsom Lake at 12:00 p.m., and will play at American River College the next day, Saturday, January 31 at 12:00 p.m.
