Giants Women's Tennis Sweep Porterville to Secure Share of CVC Title
PORTERVILLE, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance at home, sweeping Porterville College 9-0 in Central Valley Conference action to close out league play.
COS Controls Doubles Play
The Giants set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. The pairing of Areli Tobon (Mt. Whitney HS) and Sadie Avila (Hanford HS) led the way at No. 1 doubles with an 8-0 shutout victory, using strong net play and consistent first serves to keep their opponents off balance.
Head coach Martin Herrera noted the importance of that early momentum, emphasizing how Avila and Tobon's aggressive net play and consistency helped set the tone for the entire match.
At No. 2, Jaden Godoy (Dinuba HS) and Devony Allen (Mt. Whitney HS) controlled their match from start to finish in an 8-1 win. The No. 3 team of Mia Orosco (Dinuba HS) and Jylean Cervantes (Tulare Union HS) matched that effort, also securing an 8-1 victory to give COS a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
Singles Sweep Secures Victory
The Giants carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets to complete the shutout.
Avila led the lineup at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Godoy followed with a strong 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2. Ruby Zambrano (Dinuba HS) added another point at No. 3 singles, using consistent groundstrokes and timely forehand slices to earn a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Head Coach Martin Herrera highlighted Zambrano's performance, noting that her consistency from the baseline and ability to mix in slices played a key role in her win.
Orosco dominated at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 performance, while Tobon and Allen closed out the match with commanding straight-set wins to secure the 9-0 team victory.
Following the match, Herrera expressed pride in the team's overall performance and season, noting that the win secured a share of the conference championship for the Giants.
